very good
Ranked #1 of 8
Securing the top position among eight competitors, the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 set an impressive benchmark in winter automotive sport, earning a final rating of 'Very good'. This tire was celebrated for its outstanding driving dynamics, which included direct steering responses, high grip levels, ample safety margins, and supreme balance on snow. Remarkably, it showcased the shortest stopping distances, high cornering stability, and excellent steering precision on dry surfaces. Despite its superior performance, the tire did display some weaknesses. It had deficiencies in braking on wet roads and was prone to early onset aquaplaning, especially around curves, accompanied by a noticeable noise during cornering. However, it excelled across numerous disciplines, being unmatched in dry braking, dry handling, dry lane changing, dry steering response, snow braking, snow handling, objective snow handling, lateral guidance on snow, and snow traction. This all-round performance solidified its position as a top contender in winter automotive sport, despite the minor concessions required on wet surfaces.
