Our comparison today features two remarkable summer tyres, namely Toyo Proxes Sport 2 and Michelin Pilot Sport 5. Both are products of famous manufacturers, Toyo and Michelin.

The Toyo Proxes Sport 2 earned a rating of 72% in our tests. It’s a UHP (Ultra High Performance) summer tyre with balanced handling in both dry and wet conditions. Notwithstanding, its mileage seems limited, and the tyre comes with a higher price tag, which were considered as its main drawbacks in Autobild 2019 and Autobild 2023.

Regarding its rankings, the Toyo Proxes Sport 2 landed the 7th position in a pool of 10 tyres at the Autozeitung test and 11th in a pool of 18 tyres per the ADAC test. In the Autobild test, however, it improved significantly and occupied the 10th place amongst 50 tyres tested, with a notable feature being its 'Wet circle cornering'.

On the other hand, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 displays an impressive performance with a 97% rating in our tests. Serving an upgrade to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and Michelin Pilot Sport 3, this summer UUHP (Ultra-Ultra High Performance) tyre has proven to excel in precise steering, good aquaplaning reserves, and short braking distances in both wet and dry conditions. The high price seems to be its only drawback though, as reported by Autobild 2019 and Autobild 2023.

In test rankings, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 definitely stands out. It took the 4th position in the Autozeitung test and an impressive 3rd position in the ADAC test. Furthermore, it landed the 6th place in the Autobild test among 50 tyres, with strong performance in 'Aquaplaning - cross', 'Aquaplaning - longitudinal', 'Wet braking', and 'Wet circle cornering'.

To sum up, Michelin Pilot Sport 5 overall performs better in tests than the Toyo Proxes Sport 2 even though both excel in different capacities. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 is a star performer but comes with a higher price while the Toyo Proxes Sport 2 offers a good balance between performance and price, but may disappoint in terms of mileage. So the final decision should really consider these factors for a perfect fit.
