Here we provide a comparison of two summer tyres - the Continental PremiumContact 6 and the Nokian Powerproof.

The Continental PremiumContact 6, manufactured by Continental, is a touring type summer tyre that we rate at a solid 87%. It's made in Slovakia, Germany, and Czech Republic. The Continental PremiumContact 6 offers excellent dry handling capabilities, excelling particularly in dry steering response and comfort. In comparison tests, this tyre ranked highly - consistently placing within the top three. Notably, this tyre performed best in the "AutoMotoSport", "AutoZeitung", and "ADAC" tests. However, a key drawback is its wet grip performance, according to automotorsport 2022 data. This model replaces the earlier Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 and has itself been superseded by the Continental PremiumContact 7.

On the other hand, the Nokian Powerproof, by Nokian, is another summer tyre but it scored lower in our review with a rating of 71%. It's manufactured in Finland and was not a replacement for any previous model. Despite its lower overall score, the Nokian Powerproof also provides good dry-handling capabilities, especially in steering response. And it consistently ranked mid-field in comparison tests. The tyre stood out in the "Autobild" test, demonstrating strong braking performance in wet conditions, and handling on gravel. However, this tyre was knocked down for its aquaplaning safety, and some users have noted a noticeable rolling noise.

The verdict from these tests suggests that while both the Continental PremiumContact 6 and Nokian Powerproof are strong performers overall, the Continental tyre scores higher for its exceptional dry handling, overall comfort, and lower noise levels. The Nokian tyre stands out for its wet braking performance and handling on gravel, but may fall short in terms of noise and aquaplaning safety. The choice may then come down to specific user requirements and driving conditions.
