Detailed head-to-head comparison based on actual test results
The comparison of two popular summer tyres - the Vredestein ULTRAC manufactured in Hungary and the Toyo Proxes Comfort, a touring tyre made in Japan - reveals some interesting differences.
First, focusing on test data, the Vredestein ULTRAC achieved a respectable fourth place in the Autobild test, among 51 total tyres tested. The Toyo Proxes Comfort, on the other hand, ranked ninth. However, it showed a remarkable performance in areas like aquaplaning, dry handling and dry braking.
The Toyo Proxes Comfort received praise from autobild 2024 tests, for its dynamic wet and dry handling, short braking distances, and low noise. Some criticisms were its low mileage and extended wet braking distance. Also, No tyre replaced this Toyo model yet.
The Vredestein ULTRAC has its strengths in excellent wet handling and the best aquaplaning resistance tested. It did attract certain criticism, however, for its high rolling resistance and external noise. So far, no new tyre has replaced this particular Vredestein model.
Despite this, the Vredestein ULTRAC model impressed autobild 2019 with its safe driving qualities, good aquaplaning properties, and pleasantly quiet rolling comfort. Nonetheless, it did showcase minor understeering tendencies on wet and dry tracks, heightened rolling resistance, and slightly elongated braking distances.
Meanwhile, the Toyo Proxes Comfort demonstrated balanced driving behavior on wet and dry tracks, short dry braking distances, and good rolling comfort, according to autobild 2022. However, it lacked safety reserves when cornering aquaplaning and possessed moderate mileage.
In terms of our website's rating, the Toyo Proxes Comfort outperforms the Vredestein ULTRAC with a 66% rating compared to 26%. However, both tyres perform well with their strengths, contributing to a decent value for the moderate price level. The Vredestein ULTRAC even being selected as the original equipment tyre for the BMW 2-series Active Tourer.
In conclusion, both the Vredestein ULTRAC and Toyo Proxes Comfort have their advantages and weaknesses, and where one tyre may excel, the other may suffer. This makes the choice between the two largely down to individual preferences and specific requirements.
