Detailed head-to-head comparison based on actual test results
Today we will be comparing two standout performance tyres: Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S and Bridgestone Potenza Sport. Both tyres are of summer type, made by premium manufacturers, Michelin and Bridgestone respectively.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S, made in the US, received a solid 93% rating from us. Its standout characteristics include excellent comfort and superior aquaplaning resistance. The tyre also exhibits a well-rounded performance in both dry and wet conditions, making it a top pick for those who seldom hit the track. Some tests noticed limited steering feel, but the excellent grip and safety handling balance make up for this minor drawback. A newer version of this tyre is now available (link).
On the other hand, we have the Bridgestone Potenza Sport, a UUHP type tyre manufactured in Poland and Hungary. It scored an 87% on our rating scale, with remarkable strengths in wet handling and sharp, sporty steering. However, it was also reported to have a high rolling resistance level which is leading to its current replacement. Additionally, reports cited lower resistance to aquaplaning and higher noise levels that might affect riding comfort.
In comparison tests, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S consistently landed in high positions, even grabbing the top spot in the AutoBild test. It achieved particularly high scores for aquaplaning and dry braking. However, the Bridgestone Potenza Sport demonstrated its grit too, landing in the sixth position in the SportAuto test. Despite a somewhat lower performance in dry braking, it still racked up points for wet handling and sharp steering.
Verdict: While both tyres demonstrate strong performance, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S appears to be the better option for a well-rounded ride comfort and safety in various weather conditions. Nevertheless, for riders who enjoy spirited driving and do not mind a bit of noise, the Bridgestone Potenza Sport can also be a satisfactory pick. Always remember to consider your personal preferences and driving conditions when choosing your tyres.
