When comparing the Maxxis Premitra HP5 and the Continental EcoContact 6, both tyres offer unique features, advantages and shortcomings.
The Maxxis Premitra HP5 boasts impressive safety on wet roads due to its excellent aquaplaning reserves. It achieves short wet braking distances, a major safety strength in any tyre. However, it faces criticisms for its dry handling performance and increased rolling resistance. Plus, its lifespan may not appeal to drivers aiming for maximum mileage, with a notably restricted life length.
In contrast, the Continetal EcoContact 6 impresses with its low rolling resistance, short dry braking distances and very good mileage, making it a cost-effective option for thrifty purchasers. Nevertheless, it falters when confronted with wet conditions, with limited aquaplaning reserves and extended wet braking distances. Plus, its steering behaviour and understeering driving performance could be a turn off for demanding drivers.
Looking at test results, in both Autobild and Autozeitung tests, the Maxxis Premitra HP5 outperforms the Continental EcoContact 6, placing 16th and 5th against 23rd and 7th positions respectively in the tests. A similar picture is painted in the ADAC results, where the Maxxis tyre also triumphs, finishing 3rd against the 8th-place Continental.
Overall, if a driver values wet road safety and is not too concerned about mileage or dry handling, then the Maxxis Premitra HP5 would be the better choice. On the other hand, if fuel efficiency, high mileage and dry braking performance are the primary concerns, then the Continental EcoContact 6 would undoubtedly be the better option.
It's also worth mentioning that both these tyres have been replaced with newer models. You can check out these latest models here.
