In this comparison, we will look at two high-performance summer tyres: the Falken Azenis FK510 and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Both tyres are popular choices among drivers and have been tested extensively across various conditions.
The Falken Azenis FK510 is a Japanese tyre with a 90% rating on our site. It is manufactured in both Japan and Turkey and has no predecessor. A newer version, the Falken Azenis FK520, will be available soon.
On the other hand, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is a European tyre with a 94% rating on our site. It replaces the popular Michelin Pilot Sport 3 and is manufactured in Spain and Germany. A newer version, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5, is already in the pipeline.
According to the test results, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 consistently ranks higher than the Falken Azenis FK510 in various tests. For example, in the Autobild test, Michelin's tyre ranked first among nine tyres while Falken ranked sixth.
In terms of strengths, the Falken Azenis FK510 excels in aquaplaning resistance, comfort, exterior noise, and rolling resistance. It also offers acceptable performance in wet and dry cornering grip. However, it falls short in aquaplaning, dry braking and handling, and stability during lane changes, making it more suitable for less demanding driving conditions.
Conversely, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 stands out for its excellent handling and braking performance in both wet and dry conditions, as well as its fuel-saving rolling resistance. It offers direct steering response and precise feedback, satisfying sporty drivers' demands. However, it has a higher price and a somewhat narrower margin of safety in wet conditions.
Considering the overall test results and strengths of each tyre, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is considered the better choice for those seeking high-performance tyres with a focus on handling, braking, and efficiency. However, for drivers prioritizing comfort, exterior noise, and aquaplaning resistance, the Falken Azenis FK510 might be a more suitable option.
