Today, we are comparing two popular tyre models: the Continental PremiumContact 7 and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, manufactured by Continental and Goodyear respectively.

The Continental PremiumContact 7 is a highly-rated touring tyre (99% rating in our tests) made in several European countries, including France, Slovakia, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Previous models in its line include the Continental PremiumContact 6 and Continental ContiPremiumContact 5. Though there is no newer tyre that has replaced this model, its strengths according to the reviews include excellent resistance to aquaplaning, impressive fuel efficiency, and short braking distances.

In the test conducted by Autobild, the Continental PremiumContact 7 ranked 5th out of 50 tyres, earning praise for its longitudinal aquaplaning and rolling resistance features. On the other hand, in the tests by Vibilagare, Aftonbladet, and Autozeitung the tyre secured the 5th, 2nd, and 2nd positions respectively.

There were, however, some areas of improvement for the tyre. Despite its solid new-state wet braking, its performance deteriorated more than its competitors when worn. Furthermore, testers noted that although the tyre demonstrated improved maturity over previous models, it lacked a sporty appeal that might put off those seeking a more spirited drive.

On the other hand, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, a summer tyre known for its ultra-high-performance standing, takes the stage with a perfect 100% rating in our tests. Made in Germany, this tyre is a successor to the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3. Like the Continental PremiumContact 7, there is no newer model that has replaced this tyre.

In terms of test results, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 outshone its counterpart in several instances. It secured an impressive 2nd position in the Autobild test out of 50 tyres, with strengths such as dry handling, comfort, exterior noise reduction, mileage, and price/value. In Vibilagare's and Autozeitung's tests, the Goodyear tyre took the 4th and 1st positions respectively.

What makes this tyre stand out is its predictability and versatile performance, combining a safe understeer balance with sporty handling. This, coupled with exceptional comfort and low wear, makes it a strong all-round choice for most vehicles. That being said, testers did note that, on track, it seems to be lacking the heat resistance of the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5.

In conclusion, between the Continental PremiumContact 7 and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, the former offers excellent resistance to aquaplaning and lower rolling resistance while the latter boasts of superior dry handling and comfort. Your final choice should match your driving style and requirements.
