outstanding
Ranked #1 of 6
1st of 6 — final rating: Outstanding. The Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 proved a very reliable, high‑grip winter tyre with a broad safety margin on snow, topping the test for snow braking, snow cornering and snow traction; it also excelled in dry braking, steering response and handling, and stood out for low rolling resistance and low exterior noise. Testers found it very safe but noted pronounced understeer on wet surfaces; on dry roads it felt agile, corner‑stable, quiet and fuel‑efficient. Negatives were a somewhat nervous rear axle during evasive or rapid lane‑change maneuvers on asphalt and marginal damping over joints and edges. It did not finish last in any discipline.
