We bring you an in-depth comparison of two summer tyres – the Vredestein ULTRAC and the Continental PremiumContact 7. The Vredestein ULTRAC was manufactured in Hungary, and the Continental PremiumContact 7 was produced in France, Slovakia, Germany, and the Czech Republic.

The Vredestein ULTRAC, tested on the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer, performed well in tests by ACE and Automotorsport, taking 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Its strengths lie in aquaplaning, both longitudal and cross, and dry handling. However, there were concerns about understeering on wet and dry terrain, higher rolling resistance, and slightly extended braking distances (Vredestein).

Remarkably, the Continental PremiumContact 7 did better overall, securing first position in every test and outperforming previous models such as Continental PremiumContact 6 and Continental ContiPremiumContact 5. This tyre showed excellent performance, particularly in wet and dry braking, wet and dry handling, and comfort. However, its higher rolling resistance and increased external noise detracted from its all-round performance.

In direct comparison, both tyres performed well in aquaplaning tests. The Continental PremiumContact 7, however, consistently outperformed the Vratesdtein ULTRAC in dry and wet braking and handling. The Continental tyre additionally stood out in comfort, safety, and wet safety.

The PremiumContact 7's high rolling resistance and increased external noise may be a trade-off for its outstanding performance. The tyre fared well in durability testing, forecasted for a high mileage and low fuel consumption. The Vredestein ULTRAC though, has lower predicted longevity and higher tyre wear.

In conclusion, both tyres are capable performers. The Vredestein ULTRAC is a reliable option with good handling and aquaplaning features, while the Continental PremiumContact 7 is a top-performing all-rounder excelling in dry and wet conditions but may produce more external noise. Keep in mind, these results may vary depending on the vehicles and terrains they are used on.
