In this tyre comparison, we focus on two summer touring tyres: the Toyo Proxes Comfort from Toyo, and the Michelin Primacy 4+ from Michelin. These contenders were tested under rigorous conditions with data summarized from a range of sources.
The Toyo Proxes Comfort is a summer tyre known for its dynamic wet and dry handling, short braking distances, quiet noise levels, and reasonable pricing. Some of its highlighted features according to tests include its capabilities in aquaplaning-longitudinal, dry handling, and wet handling. However, tests reveal a weakness in terms of its treadlife, suggesting its lower mileage as a drawback. Moreover, in a field of 55 tyres, it took the 6th position in Autobild and 14th in ADAC tests.
On the other hand, the Michelin Primacy 4+ replaces the prior models, Primacy 4 and Primacy 3. It is greatly commended for its balanced high-performance, excellent handling, short dry braking distances, impressive mileage, and economy. Despite handing excellent performance on both dry and wet roads, test results do not point out any particular weakness. In the Autobild test out of 55 tyres, it secured the 5th position — performing slightly better than the Toyo Proxes Comfort. Further, it held 3rd place in a pool of 50 tyres in the ADAC test. This model has been replaced by Michelin Primacy 5.
In summary, although both are well-received, the Michelin Primacy 4+ outperforms Toyo Proxes Comfort on several fronts including higher test positions. The consistent improvements over its previous models, and the lack of noticeable weaknesses help Michelin Primacy 4+ edge out Toyo Proxes Comfort. If customers are seeking durability and high performance* in all aspects, they may find Michelin Primacy 4+ more appealing. However, those looking for a cost-effective solution might lean towards the Toyo Proxes Comfort.
