Today's comparison centers around two tyres - the Toyo Celsius AS2 and the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2. Both are allround tyres produced respectively by Toyo, a Japanese manufacturer, and Pirelli, a tyre producer from Romania.
The Toyo Celsius AS2 holds an overall rating of 54% from our tests. Its strengths lie in high comfort levels and low rolling resistance. However, the Celsius AS2 showcased average winter quality and an understeering handling on snowy and wet tracks, leading to extended braking distances on wet surfaces. Despite this, the Toyo Celsius AS2 provided sound safety reserves in aquaplaning situations and was known for its high mileage.
Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2, on the other hand, has an overall rating of 73%. The SF2 presented safe and precise characteristics on dry road surfaces and promising safety features on wet and snowy roads. Known for its lowest rolling resistance, outstanding aquaplaning resilience, and low exterior noise, it was only let down by a relatively high tyre weight and low mileage projection. This model has been replaced by the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3.
In mutual test positions, the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2 outperformed the Toyo Celsius AS2. In the ACE and Autobild tests, the Toyo Celsius AS2 ranked ninth out of nine and eleven tested tyres respectively, while the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2 was placed in the 5th position. The SF2 further strengthened its credentials by ranking second out of sixteen tyres in the ADAC test, while again the Celsius AS2 fell behind at the 11th position.
In conclusion, both tyres demonstrated noteworthy qualities with the Toyo Celsius AS2 excelling in comfort, rolling resistance and aquaplaning safety reserves. However, the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2 stands out as the better of the two, owing to its precise and safe characteristics on all road types, superior aquaplaning reserves, and quieter performance. Bearing in mind its superior test results, the Pirelli tyre emerges as the more well-rounded and better performing tyre of the two in this comparison.
