The Nokian Powerproof and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 are both summer tyres that have proven themselves in multiple tests. However, when it comes to overall performance, Michelin's offering takes the higher position.

Built in Finland, the Nokian Powerproof offers a performance that could be characterized as decent. It scored a 51% rating in our tests. Advantages include a strong safety buffer under wet conditions coupled with a neutral to understeering handling. The tyre also got credit for having reserves during wet conditions. Despite these positives, it comes with a number of shortcomings, most notably deficits in aquaplaning safety and a slightly perceptible singing rolling and aligning noise. Out of the tests that included it, the position of Nokian Powerproof ranged from 6th to 11th place, with its forte being "Dry steering response" and "Interior noise".

On the other hand, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4, manufactured in Spain and Germany, exhibited a superior class of performance, securing an 84% rating from our tests. This model was especially praised for its dynamic properties on dry roads, with great responsiveness, directness, and precision. This tyre also meets sporty demands comfortably. Despite performing admirably in many categories, the tyre was marked down for its narrow limit range on wet surfaces and its sensitivity to puddles. However, worth mentioning is that this tyre got replaced by the Michelin Pilot Sport 5. Its positions in the tests varied between 2nd and 4th place, indicating a consistently high performance. As for its best-rated characteristics, it excels in "Dry steering response", "Aquaplaning - longitudinal", "Dry braking" and "Dry handling".

To sum up, if you are willing to trade off the shortcomings of the Nokian Powerproof for its lower price, it can still be a viable option. But if you are looking for overall performance across varying conditions, it is hard to look past the consistent high-performance of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Always remember to choose your tyres based on your typical driving conditions and preferences.
