Detailed head-to-head comparison based on actual test results
Today we are putting a spotlight on two standout tyres in the summer touring category - the Michelin Primacy 4+ and the Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun.
The Michelin Primacy 4+ is the latest iteration of the popular Primacy series, a mature product line from French tyre manufacturer Michelin. It replaces previous models Primacy 4 and Primacy 3.
The Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun on the other hand is a commendable competitor from Falken, a popular tyre brand known for striking a balance between price and performance. An upgrade from the ZE310 Ecorun is already on the market: the ZIEX ZE320.
Our tests have awarded the Michelin Primacy 4+ a higher overall rating, with 77% as compared to the Falken's 75%. It distinguished itself through excellent wet grip, high aquaplaning resistance, comfort, and efficient rolling resistance. Yet, some sluggishness was noticed in dry handling.
Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun is appreciated for its good aquaplaning security reserves, dynamic dry handling, and short dry braking distances. However, it did fall a bit short in longevity according to tests.
In the Autozeitung test, both tyres were neck-to-neck with the Michelin at position seven and the Falken clinching the sixth spot. The scenario was similar in the Autobild showdown where out of 55 tyres tested, Michelin claimed the fifth position, and the Falken secured seventh place. However, things are different in the Vibilagare test where the Falken tire outperformed the Michelin, standing at fourth and seventh positions, respectively.
Comparing the two tyres, the Michelin Primacy 4+ seems to take the edge in terms of comfort, noise, and rolling resistance. On the other hand, the Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun brings strength to the table in the form of aquaplaning resistance and dry handling.
In conclusion, both the Michelin Primacy 4+ and Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun are competent summer tyres that cater to differing driver preferences. While the former leans towards comfort and long life, the latter impresses with better corners grip and safe wet performance.
