When comparing the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, two summer tyres suitable for ultra-high-performance (UUHP) applications, it is evident that both have their strengths and weaknesses.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 5, rated at 96%, is the latest tyre in Michelin's line-up, following the Pilot Sport 4 and Pilot Sport 3. According to Autobild's test results, it placed 6th out of 50 tyres, with outstanding mileage and wet braking being its best features. However, the tyre's weaknesses include its dynamic handling and short braking distances on both wet and dry surfaces. Moreover, although it offers a very good running performance, it did fall short in the cost segment. It also placed 3rd in the ADAC test and 2nd in the Sportauto test, further emphasizing its overall good performance.

The Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 scored 76% in our ratings. According to the same test sources, the Dunlop tyre was in the 13th position in the Autobild test, with its best performances in aquaplaning both cross and longitudal resistance. In the ADAC test, it landed 9th place, but came in last in the Sportauto test. Notably, the tyre excelled in rolling resistance. On the downside, the tyre showed a delayed steering response on dry roads.

In conclusion, if you prioritize mileage and wet braking performance, Michelin's Pilot Sport 5 could be your tyre of choice. However, if aquaplaning resistance and rolling resistance are your priorities, the Dunlop's SP Sport Maxx RT2 could be a better fit. Remember, every driver and vehicle might have unique requirements and preferences, so considering all aspects of these tyres is crucial.
