Detailed head-to-head comparison based on actual test results
Today, we will be comparing two touring, summer tyres: the Kumho Ecsta HS52 and the Bridgestone Turanza T005. Both are recommended for their consistency and performance in various conditions. However, each tyre possesses unique features that set them apart.
The Kumho Ecsta HS52 is a successor to the popular HS51 model and holds a commendable site rating of 78%. According to Autoklub ČR and Autobild, the HS52 excels in dry braking and offers an excellent price to performance ratio. Despite its strengths, TyreReviews reports a few weaknesses including environmental balance, efficiency and sustainability. On comparing with others, it secured the 13th position among 19 tyres in Autoklub ČR and 8th among 50 tyres in ADAC. This model has been discontinued and is replaced by a newer tyre model.
On the other hand, the Bridgestone Turanza T005, manufactured in facilities across Europe, boasts an impressive site rating of 92%. This Bridgestone tyre stands out in tests, especially when it comes to rolling resistance and wet circle cornering. In addition, AutoBild praised its exceptional performance in terms of dry and wet braking, wet circle cornering and wet handling. Although TyreReviews.com 2023 noticed no particular weaknesses, autobild 2022 mentions a limited lifespan. On comparing with others, in Autoklub ČR, Turanza T005 secured the 3rd position out of 19 tyres, and in ADAC, it secured the 4th position out of 50 tyres.
In summary, both Kumho Ecsta HS52 and Bridgestone Turanza T005 delivered consistent performances, yet with some notable differences. While the Kumho tyre offers excellent dry braking and value for money, the Bridgestone tyre shined in terms of grip and handling, both on wet and dry surfaces. On the downside, Kumho falls short in environmental impact, and Bridgestone shows a limited lifespan.
All analysis considered, the comprehensive tests place Bridgestone Turanza T005 at a higher position overall, due to its superior ability, balance and definitely worth considering despite its lifespan limitation. However, if budget constraints are a factor, the Kumho Ecsta HS52 may be a commendable alternative.
