The Kumho Ecsta HS51 and the Semperit Speed-Life 3 have both battled it out in several summer tyre tests, with their performances indicating distinct strengths and weaknesses in various areas.

The HS51 model made by Kumho is produced in China and is the predecessor of the current Kumho Ecsta HS52. This tyre has a fair overall rating of 45%, reflecting its satisfactory performance. In the tests conducted by Auto Bild and ADAC, this tyre showed a particular strength in countering aquaplaning, price/value, wet handling conditions, wet side guide, and fuel efficiency, also managing noise well.
In the total pool of 53 tyres reviewed by Auto Bild, the Kumho Ecsta HS51 managed to secure a commendable 3rd position. Even in the ADAC review, among 15 tyres, it managed to stand in the 5th position, further strengthening its commendable performance.
In contrast, the Semperit Speed-Life 3 has a strong overall rating of 65%, indicating it as an excellent performer. It has an evident strength in tackling exterior noise and wet braking situations. This tyre replaced the Semperit Speed-Life model and is currently the pinnacle product of Semperit.
In the tests conducted by Auto Bild, the Semperit Speed-Life 3 took the 12th position out of 53 tyres, showcasing its solid performance capabilities. Moreover, in the ADAC test, this tyre outperformed the majority by securing the 2nd position out of 15 competitors.
Considering both the tyres, the Semperit Speed-Life 3 edges out the Kumho Ecsta HS51 in the overall tests. However, the choice between these tyres would still depend on the specific requirements of the driver. If aquaplaning and other wet conditions are frequently encountered, then the Kumho Ecsta HS51 might prove to be the best pick. However, for better noise control and wet braking, the Semperit Speed-Life 3 is indeed a viable candidate. Not withstanding their previous models, both are replaced by their upgraded versions which can be considered for enhanced performance.
