The following comparison looks at two popular tyre models - the Imperial EcoSport 2 and the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2. Both tyres have been involved in various tyre tests, which allow us to provide an in-depth review for potential purchasers.
Starting with the Imperial EcoSport 2, it's important to note that it gets an average rating from our site. However, in the Autobild test, this model proved a bit underwhelming, ranking 41 out of 53 tested models. Unfortunately, no additional details were provided such as strengths or weaknesses in these tests. Thus, while the manufacturer has a generally good reputation, we can't fully endorse this particular model.
The Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, on the other hand, scored significantly higher with an impressive rating of 72% from us. The Dunlop model outperformed the Imperial EcoSport 2 in the shared Autobild test, taking the 11th spot. It shone in preventative aquaplaning features and was noted for its comfort.
Additional tests carried out by ADAC 2021 and Autobild 2022 also highlight the strengths of the SP Sport MAXX RT2. Its features include secure driving properties on wet surfaces, good aquaplaning qualities, and short dry braking distances. The tyre also earned praise for its precise handling on wet surfaces and both damp and dry braking properties, providing fair value for money.
The only weakness mentioned across the tests was a slightly delayed steering response on dry surfaces. However, as the names suggest, these tests primarily judge the tyres' performance on wet roads - arguably a more crucial aspect of a car's handling. Therefore, such a minor drawback on dry surfaces might not be a deal-breaker for most drivers.
In conclusion, between the Imperial EcoSport 2 and Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, the latter is the clear victor in the tests. It provides a safe, comfortable driving experience, especially when dealing with wet surfaces. Ideally, we like to see how the two tyres compared head-to-head directly, but given the Imperial EcoSport 2's lower position in the shared Autobild test, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 would be our recommendation.
