Detailed head-to-head comparison based on actual test results
The Hankook Ventus Prime 4 is the successor to the popular Hankook Ventus Prime3 K125, enhancing its already strong performance with an improved design. Hankook Ventus Prime 4's standout features being dry braking, dry handling, and wet braking. Its dynamic driving behaviour on both wet and dry roads, short dry braking distances, and a low rolling resistance were highlighted in various tests. However, its performance was marred by mediocre tread life.
In contrast, Uniroyal RainSport 5 performed exceptionally in aquaplaning - both cross and longitudinal. Despite this, RainSport 5 received criticism due to its spongy driving behaviour and limited lateral guidance on dry roads, demonstrating a clear deficiency on dry conditions. Other weaknesses included low efficiency, lack of balance, poor ecological balance, and high fuel consumption.
In the Autobild test, out of 51 tyres, the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 finished in an impressive 2nd place, whereas the Uniroyal RainSport 5 lagged quite behind, settling for the 36th place. Similar performances were identified in the tests conducted by Autoklub ČR and ADAC. The Hankook tyre securing 9th place out of 19 and 50 tyres respectively, while the Uniroyal managed to achieve a better position in Autoklub ČR's test securing 5th place, although falling to 31st place in ADAC's evaluation.
Overall, while the Uniroyal RainSport 5 shows excellent resistance to aquaplaning, it falls short in dry conditions and other important aspects. Considering all test data as well as our own evaluations, the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 shows superior overall performance, being able to deliver well-rounded performance and value taking our rating to 85% compared to 72% for the RainSport 5.
In conclusion, while no tyre is perfect, the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 emerges as a solid choice, providing both quality and performance.
