Detailed head-to-head comparison based on actual test results
Our tyre comparison for today features the GoodYear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 and the Toyo Celsius AS2. Both are all-round tyres, suitable for year-round use.
Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 rates at 86% in our evaluation. It originates from Goodyear's robust lineage of the Vector 4 Seasons Gen-2 and Vector 4 Seasons. Goodyear, Europe-based tyre manufacturer, maintains an ongoing commitment to quality and safety. This tyre shines in testing, notably securing the first position in Autobild and ADAC tests out of 15 and 16 competitors. Even in AUTOBILD's challenging field of 37 tyres, it clinched a commendable sixth position.
The Gen-3 holds its own in various conditions. ACE lists it as particularly proficient in handling dry conditions, rolling resistance, and longitudinal aquaplaning. Moreover, it's also boasted for its sound performance on wet and snowy roads, even though it has slight weaknesses on dry surfaces.
In terms of durability, though, it's average, and the tyre's dry braking is also reported to be ordinary. Its overall balanced traits, low rolling resistance, and exceptional comfort, however, make it a compelling choice.
On the other side, the Toyo Celsius AS2- an all-round tyre from Japanese Toyo. It stands on the lower side of our metric, with a rating of 54%. Its performance in various tests seem to corroborate our rating. It consistently ended up in lower positions - 12 at AutoBild, 11 at ADAC, and last place at ACE.
This tyre, although capable on dry roads and shows resistance to aquaplaning, shows critical weaknesses on wet and snowy terrain. Drivers might also find its comfort level and rolling resistance wanting, but when considering its strengths, its good dry braking and high mileage should not go unnoticed.
In AUTOBILD's ranking, Toyo Celsius AS2 has been commended for its comfort, exterior noise, and price-value proportion. While it can't match the performance of the GoodYear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3, it manages to boast some unique features of its own. The Toyo Celsius AS2 could be a consideration for drivers prioritizing price-value ratio and higher mileage.
To conclude, the GoodYear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 seems to outshine the Toyo Celsius AS2 in most test categories overall. It overwhelmingly shines in wet, dry and snowy conditions, proving to be the safer and more reliable choice. Still, the Toyo Celsius AS2 does have its merits and could be a sensible, cost-effective alternative.
