The comparison at hand is between the Giti Gitisport S2 and the Michelin Pilot Sport 5. Both are esteemed tyres made by quality manufacturers developing high-performance summer tyres. This comparison will be based on wide-ranging tests and reviews provided by reputable organisations within the automotive industry.

Giti Gitisport S2

This high-performance summer tyre, characterized as a UHP (Ultra High Performance) tyre, is made in China by Giti. The Gitisport S2 did not replace any previous model, and as of this comparison, is the latest model from the company.

Giti’s strengths in the tests included low rolling resistance resulting in reduced fuel consumption. The tyre also achieved excellent results regarding noise levels and was praised for the aquaplaning characteristics according to the Autobild test.

However, notable minuses accompany the successes. The Gitisport S2 showed weaknesses on both dry and wet surfaces, appearing towards the bottom of almost all the conducted comparison tests. Factors such as the shortest predicted lifespan in test, higher wear, and slower steering response raise concerns over long-term performance and overall economy.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5

Michelin, a leading tyre manufacturer known for its quality and innovation, created the Pilot Sport 5. Positioned as a UUHP (Ultra Ultra High Performance), these tyres align with both performance and premium demands. This model succeeded the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and 3, further refining the strengths of its previous models.

Michelin shines in test results with its balanced tyre performance providing solid results on both dry and wet conditions. It impresses with its very high expected mileage, low wear, reduced weight, and overall low fuel consumption. Other notable strengths highlighted by Autobild include its superior cross aquaplaning, wet braking, and cornering abilities.

In the ADAC and Autobild tests, Michelin placed considerably higher than the Gitisport S2, landing in the top 10 out of 50 tyres in the Autobild test.

The main drawback of the Pilot Sport 5 was minor weaknesses in lateral aquaplaning, and its higher price point, a common factor for tyres with superior features and performance.

Overall comparison

While both the Giti Gitisport S2 and the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 are valuable tyres catering towards high performance, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 takes a noticeable lead in overall tests. Its versatile, well-rounded performance along with its higher rating of 97% establishes it as the superior tyre choice between the two for summer driving conditions. However, for drivers working under a tighter budget the Giti Gitisport S2 is still a considerable option with respectable qualities.
