Today we will be comparing Continental PremiumContact 7 and Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, two popular summer tyres from world-renowned manufacturers Continental and Dunlop.

The Continental PremiumContact 7 is our highly-rated touring tyre and it is made in France, Slovakia, Germany, and the Czech Republic. This model followed the lineage of Continental PremiumContact 6 and Continental ContiPremiumContact 5. It demonstrated impressive abilities in aquaplaning, both longitudal and cross, and rolling resistance in the Autobild test. Moreover, it took the first position in the Sportauto and ADAC test excelling in wet and dry handling, braking, and comfort.

On the other hand, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 is an ultra-high-performance tyre known for its decent fuel saving properties attributable to its low rolling resistance. Aquaplaning qualities, both longitudal and cross, are also good. Although it did not outperform the Continental PremiumContact 7 in the mutual tests, it still held its own, securing a respectful 5th position in the ADAC test and 13th in the Autobild test.

However, reviews suggest the Dunlop tyre might not perform that well in dry conditions, with noticeable lag in handling and braking. The Continental PremiumContact 7, while a bit pricier, also provides sporty-dynamic handling qualities, precise steering behaviour and good wear properties.

According to our rating, Continental PremiumContact 7 is at an impressive 99% while Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 scores a still respectable 72%. In conclusion, if you're after top-notch performance and handling properties and don't mind paying a bit extra, the Continental PremiumContact 7 seems to be the better choice. But if fuel efficiency is your primary concern, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 might provide a satisfactory performance.

Both tyres are currently available, but do ensure to check if a newer model has replaced these models before making your purchase.
