Detailed head-to-head comparison based on actual test results
Today, we will be comparing two summer tyres; the Bridgestone Potenza S001 and the Kumho Ecsta PS71. Both of these tyres are popular choices in the market but vary in performance according to different tyre tests.
On the one hand, we have the Bridgestone Potenza S001, a product of Bridgestone, with their tyre being popularly used as first Equipment in many premium cars. Based on our tests, we have noticed this tyre’s best features are its excellent resistance to aquaplaning in cross directions.
On the other hand, we have the Kumho Ecsta PS71, manufactured by Kumho. This tyre is highly rated on our site, with a score of 68%. It stands out for its low rolling resistance, and superb resistance to aquaplaning, both in cross and longitudinal directions.
In terms of mutual test positions, the tyres were put to the test by Autobild and ADAC. In the Autobild test of 8 tyres, Bridgestone Potenza S001 secured the 6th position, closely followed by Kumho Ecsta PS71 at the 7th. The results were similar in the ADAC test of 16 tyres, with Bridgestone and Kumho securing the 9th and 10th positions respectively.
Although there was not much of a difference in their rankings, it is worth noting the strengths and weaknesses of each of these tyres. Bridgestone Potenza S001 showed excellent performance in resisting aquaplaning, especially in cross directions. However, one may argue that the tyre did not perform as expected based on its ranking.
Meanwhile, the Kumho Ecsta PS71 shows an outstanding performance by resisting aquaplaning in both cross and longitudinal directions. This feature, along with its ranked low rolling resistance makes it a strong contender, despite its position in the rankings.
In summary, both tyres have their unique strengths. The Bridgestone Potenza S001 stands out for its resistance against aquaplaning, while the Kumho Ecsta PS71 shines with its low rolling resistance and superior handling in aquaplaning situations. Therefore, the choice between the two would depend on your specific driving conditions and requirements.
