Detailed head-to-head comparison based on actual test results
Today, we are comparing two summer tyres, the BFGoodrich Advantage and the Continental EcoContact 6, both widely recognized for their strong performance and unique features. Let's delve deeper into their strengths and weaknesses judging by a detailed analysis of test data.
The BFGoodrich Advantage never had a predecessor, and it has not been replaced by a new model so far. Among its outstanding features are superb comfort and stable driving behaviour, with an overall rating of 71% based on our tests. However, the tyre showcased a tendency for understeer handling and extended braking distances in wet conditions. BFGoodrich Advantage stood in quite favourable positions in tests - 20th among 51 in Autobild, 9th of 10 in Autozeitung, and 10th out of 16 with ADAC. Although not leading in those tests, it showed consistent good performance.
On the other hand, Continental EcoContact 6, proudly made in Germany, is a successor to a previous model, the Continental ContiEcoContact 5. Moreover, it has been upgraded recently to Continental EcoContact 7. The EcoContact 6 is known for its quiet exterior noise, comfort, and low rolling resistance, providing a fairly silent and smooth ride. However, it had limited aquaplaning reserves and extended wet braking distances. It also excelled in low fuel consumption and tyre wear, securing an overall rating of 68% on our site. In Autobild, the tyre ranked 23rd out of 51 and secured 7th and 8th positions in the Autozeitung and ADAC tests respectively.
In summary, the BFGoodrich Advantage made by BFGoodrich and the Continental EcoContact 6 by Continental are both competent tyres with unique strengths and weaknesses. The former offers a quiet and comfortable ride with stable handling, although it struggles in wet conditions. The latter provides a reasonably comfortable ride with low rolling resistance and excels in fuel efficiency and wear resistance, but it has significant room for improvement in terms of aquaplaning and wet braking performance. Based on the test results, we can lightly lean towards BFGoodrich Advantage for dryer conditions, while Continental EcoContact 6 may save you more on fuel costs in the long run.
