Comparison: Vredestein ULTRAC vs. Michelin Primacy 4 vs. Kumho Ecsta HS52 vs. GoodYear Efficientgrip Performance 2

The Vredestein Ultrac and Michelin Primacy 4 are two models of summer tyres tested extensively for quality and performance. Vredestein Ultrac, crafted in HU, impresses as a standard equipment for BMW 2-series Active Tourer but holds no successor in the lineage. On the contrary, Michelin Primacy 4, made in ES, DE, and PL, follows its predecessor, Michelin Primacy 3, and progressed further with its successor Michelin Primacy 4+.

AUTOBILD placed Vredestein Ultrac as the 4th out of 51 tyres tested, commending the model for its remarkable performance in wet braking, and the Michelin Primacy 4 as the 8th best performer, commending dry handling and comfort. Vredestein Ultrac displayed convincing safety reserves during aquaplaning, dynamic behaviour, and short braking distances on wet and dry surfaces, while Primacy 4, while costing more, showed convincing good handling qualities, sharp steering, good aquaplaning reserves, and a high mileage.

Autozeitung rated Ultrac at number 2 out of 10 tyres tested and Primacy 4 at number 4. However, ADAC rated Ultrac as 13th out of 16, appreciated for its dry braking and interior noise. Meanwhile, the Michelin Primacy 4 secured the 3rd position, excelling in dry braking and wet circle cornering. Ultrac's higher fuel consumption and increased wear balanced against Primacy 4's balanced performance on dry and wet surfaces and lower wear.

The overall standing supports Michelin Primacy 4 being superior with the rating of 77%, yet Vredestein Ultrac does have its strengths with a rating of 21%, providing a dynamic and comfortable driving experience, especially in wet conditions.

To summarize, both tyres offer notable strengths. However, Michelin Primacy 4 has a slight edge over Vredestein Ultrac in overall performance and wear resistance, despite its higher price level. When it comes to final decision, personal driving preferences and specific needs may tilt the scale in favour of one over the other.
