Today we are making a comparison between two summer tyres - the Federal Evoluzion ST-1 and the Kumho Ecsta PS71.
The Federal Evoluzion ST-1 features in our rating with a rather disappointing 41%. Although this tyre hasn't been replaced by a newer model, we would be reluctant to recommend it based on our assessment and Federal's review.
In direct comparison, the Kumho Ecsta PS71 performs considerably better, gaining an approval rating of 68% in our results. This Kumho tyre doesn't have a newer model to compare to yet, but its current performance certainly makes it a worthwhile consideration.
In a test conducted by Autobild, out of 53 tyres, the Federal Evoluzion ST-1 ended up on 24th position, while the Kumho Ecsta PS71 secured a significantly better 18th place. The differences of performance were rather noticeable.
In the ACE 2018 tests, the Kumho Ecsta PS71 further displayed their strength with a balanced high-performance potential, good handling quality, and short braking distances in both wet and dry conditions. However, there was one minor weakness - slightly increased noise while driving. The price point is also in an affordable range which adds to its appeal.
In summary, the Federal Evoluzion ST-1 might only be an option if budgetary constraints dictate your choice, but our recommendation would definitely lean towards the Kumho Ecsta PS71. Its balanced performance and fair pricing make it a front-runner in the summer tyre category. The potential for increased road noise is a minor drawback but considering its overall performance and competitive pricing, the Kumho Ecsta PS71 is the clear-cut leading contender between these two.
