Comparison: Continental PremiumContact 7 vs. Vredestein ULTRAC vs. Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2

4 mutual test(s) with detailed data

Today, we will be comparing synthetic text results of the Continental PremiumContact 7 (manufactured by Continental) with the Vredestein ULTRAC (manufactured by Vredestein), two highly rated summer tyres.

The Continental PremiumContact 7 is a successor of the Continental PremiumContact 6 and the Continental ContiPremiumContact 5. Tested all across Europe, this touring tyre received stellar ratings of 99%. Its strength lies particularly in wet conditions, securing the first position in terms of wet and dry braking and handling in the ACE and Automotorsport tests.

However, there are a few areas for improvement - the Continental PremiumContact 7 registered average resistance to aquaplaning and exhibited slightly increased external noise.

On the other hand, Vredestein ULTRAC, the first equipment for BMW 2-series Active Tourer, did not receive as high a ranking as its counterpart - with an overall rating of 26%. It secured the third position in the Automotorsport test, with strengths in handling and resisting aquaplaning.

The Vredestein ULTRAC showcases some excellent qualities, such as secure handling on wet and dry roads and impressive aquaplaning resistance. However, it falls short when it comes to overall efficiency, with higher rolling resistance and external noise.

When compared head to head in the Autobild and Autozeitung tests, the Continental PremiumContact 7 consistently outperformed Vredestein ULTRAC, securing the first position, while the latter secured the third and fourth position respectively.

Both tyres do have a few drawbacks. While the Continental PremiumContact 7 struggles slightly with aquaplaning and noise, the Vredestein ULTRAC was marked down for its high rolling resistance and noise levels.

In conclusion, while the Continental PremiumContact 7 consistently outperforms the Vredestein ULTRAC in terms of handling and braking – both in wet and dry conditions – the Vredestein ULTRAC does have some strengths. Particularly, it offers very good aquaplaning resistance and handling on wet and dry roads. However, overall, the Continental PremiumContact 7 provides a better balance between efficiency and performance.
