Comparison: Avon ZV7 vs. Viking Protech NewGen

When it comes to choosing the right summer tyres for your vehicle, the Avon ZV7 and the Viking Protech NewGen are two options to consider. However, according to our tests and ratings, these two models perform quite differently.

The Avon ZV7, crafted by Avon, scored lower in our tests, with a rating of only 17%. This tyre showcased certain strengths including relative fuel efficiency but fell short in multiple areas. Some of its weaknesses include an imbalance during operation, inefficiency on dry road conditions which led to reduction in rating, a poor environmental footprint, very low tread life, high wear and tear, and sustainability concerns.

On the other hand, the Viking Protech NewGen from Viking performed better overall receiving a rating of 28%. It performed well in environmental efficiency and tread life, making it an effective and lightweight tyre. However, it was not without its drawbacks. This model didn't have a balanced performance and struggled with traction on both dry and wet roads, which resulted in rating downgrades.

In mutual tests positions, both tyres didn't top the range. According to the ADAC tests, out of 50 tyres tested, the Avon ZV7 ranked 42nd, significantly behind the Viking Protech NewGen which ranked 25th. The test by Autobild revealed analogous results with the Avon ZV7 securing the 25th position and the Viking Protech NewGen further behind in the 36th position out of 53 tyres tested.

In conclusion, if a better rating and higher test positions are your priority, the Viking Protech NewGen should be your pick, but it's crucial to consider its weaknesses in dry and wet conditions. Conversely, if fuel efficiency and cost-effectiveness are your concerns, the Avon ZV7 might be a viable option, but keep in mind its numerous drawbacks.

Please note that none of these tyres have been replaced with newer models yet. Therefore, it's worth keeping an eye on the Avon and Viking product lines for any future high-performing, improved tyres.
