Comparison: Uniroyal RainSport 5 vs. Continental PremiumContact 7 vs. GoodYear Efficientgrip Performance 2

Let's examine and compare two popular tyres available in the market: Uniroyal RainSport 5 and Continental PremiumContact 7. Both tyres are summer tyres with different subtypes; RainSport 5 is an Ultra High-Performance (UHP) tyre, while PremiumContact 7 is a touring tyre. The manufacturers' information for RainSport 5 can be found here and for PremiumContact 7 here.

Starting with Uniroyal RainSport 5, this model doesn't have any previous models or a model that replaces it. Its strengths lie in handling aquaplaning quite effectively, as indicated in the Autobild and Autoklub ČR tests. However, the tyre received a lower overall rating of 62% from us possibly due to its noted weakness: less reliable handling and grip on dry surfaces.

On the other hand, the Continental PremiumContact 7 scores impressively with a high rating of 97%. This tyre is the successor to the PremiumContact 6 and the ContiPremiumContact 5. In terms of strengths, the PremiumContact 7 exhibits exemplary performance in both dry and wet conditions, offering short braking distances, dynamic handling, and impressive mileage. The only negative comment seems to be its price as evaluated in the autobild 2023 test.

Looking deeper into the test results, in the Autobild test, Continental PremiumContact 7 ranked significantly better (5th out of 50 tyres tested) than Uniroyal RainSport 5, which ranked 17th. Specific areas where the Continental model outperformed include rolling resistance, dry braking, wet braking, and wet circle cornering.

In the Autoklub ČR test, Continental PremiumContact 7 again took the lead, coming in at number 1 out of 19 tyres tested, whereas the Uniroyal model managed the 5th position. The PremiumContact 7 showed better performance in comfort, dry braking, wet braking, and wet handling.

Overall, both tyres offer unique strengths with Uniroyal RainSport 5 excelling in handling aquaplaning and Continental PremiumContact 7 demonstrating overall superiority in both dry and wet conditions. However, when considering both performance and test rankings, the Continental PremiumContact 7 tyre comes out ahead, establishing itself as the better performing tyre of the two.
