Comparison: Maxxis Victra Sport 5 vs. Michelin Pilot Sport 5 vs. Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2

The sport performance segment always has some fierce competition, in this case we are comparing two prominent names, the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 and the Michelin Pilot Sport 5.

Starting with the Maxxis Victra Sport 5. Produced in China, this summer tyre has come up as a major player in the market. They scored 69% in our rating. According to our tests, the tyre stands out particularly for its “Wet circle cornering.” Overall, the Victra Sport 5 has secured impressive positions in tests, among a field of 50 contenders, ranging from 9th place by Autobild to 4th in tests by Die Reifentester and Sportauto. Critics did point out its long braking distances on wet surfaces, but praised its precise handling and response in changing conditions. Maxxis has not yet released a newer version of this model.

On the other side, we have the Michelin Pilot Sport 5, a sequel to the popular Pilot Sport 4 and 3. With an impressive score of 97% in our rating, it’s a summer tyre with ultra ultra high performance (UUHP) attributes. The tyre exhibited strong performance in wet conditions. It achieved 6th place among 50 contenders in tests by Autobild and stood strong in the tests by Die Reifentester and Sportauto. This tyre indeed seems to have a higher price tag as per some critics, but its high mileage, excellent grip in both, dry and wet surfaces, and short braking distances may justify the cost to performance enthusiasts. At present, there doesn’t seem to be a newer model that replaces this tyre yet. For more info you can check out Michelin.

Verdict: Both tyres performed respectably in our tests, with each showing particular strengths. The Maxxis Victra Sport 5 excels in cornering in wet conditions, while the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 shines overall with its versatile performance, particularly in wet braking and cornering. It's up to individual consumer choice about price still, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 has a slight edge overall in test results.
