Comparison: Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 vs. Firestone Multiseason 2 vs. Nokian WetProof vs. Michelin Primacy 5

The Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 tyre, manufactured in China, is an all-around tyre earning a 53% rating. While having the advantage of good aquaplaning qualities, it is dubbed to have a delayed steering response, understeering behavior in all weather conditions, and limited mileage and efficiency (AutoBild 2022). In addition, it boasts good safety reserves at aquaplaning, dynamic handling, and short dry braking distances but bears the con of extended wet braking distances as observed in AutoBild 2020's test.

On the other hand, the Firestone Multiseason 2, made in Italy, is ranked relatively higher at 60%. In adverse conditions, it performs exceptionally well with its short snow and wet braking distances, high mileage, and low rolling resistance according to AutoBild 2022. However, its side control on snow is mediocre, and it has low safety reserves at bend aquaplaning as well as a prolonged dry braking distance. Consistently, AutoBild 2020 noted it for good traction and low snow braking distances, dynamic wet handling, and short dry braking distances. An added bonus was its superior price-performance ratio. Its only weakness is its average safety reserves at aquaplaning.

Overall, the Firestone Multiseason 2 has a leg up over the Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 in test positions with Firestone Multiseason 2 ranking 6th out of 32 in Autobild's test while Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 is positioned at the 13th place. As noted by Firestone and Maxxis, the choice between these two tyres might boil down to specific use cases and consumer preferences. Nonetheless, both tyres generally provide good value for their price, notwithstanding some minor drawbacks.
