Comparison: Kumho Ecsta HS51 vs. Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2 vs. Pirelli P ZERO PZ4 vs. Hankook Ventus Evo

In this review, we compare two highly rated summer tyres: the Kumho Ecsta HS51 and the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2. Both have shown solid performances across various tyre tests, but let's look closely at their strengths and weaknesses.

The Kumho Ecsta HS51 made in China, is a notable product from Kumho, performing exceptionally in aquaplaning scenarios – both cross and longitudinal. Also, it excels in wet handling and side guiding, including wet circle cornering. According to multiple tests, these features make it a reliable choice especially in rainy conditions. It also earns points for its price/value ratio, fuel efficiency, and low exterior noise. However, this model has been replaced by the Kumho Ecsta HS52.

On the other hand, the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2 emerged from Goodyear, being an improved version of its predecessor. It particularly stands out for its exceptional mileage, comfort, and price/value ratio. However, it does fall behind the Kumho Ecsta HS51 in terms of aquaplaning performance. Nevertheless, its solid performance across various fields secured it higher overall position in multiple tyre tests.

Looking at the mutual test positions, the Kumho Ecsta HS51 secured the 3rd position in the Autobild test out of 53 tyres, 5th in the ADAC test out of 15 tyres, and 7th in the Teknikens test out of 10 tyres. The Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2, although not at the top, secured commendable positions: 13th in the Autobild test, 4th in the ADAC test, and 2nd in the Teknikens test.

In summary, the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2 has an edge with a higher average position in the tests. Provided its advantages in terms of mileage and comfort, it offers a more balanced performance overall. However, if you're after exceptional aquaplaning resistance and prefer excellent wet handling keys, the Kumho Ecsta HS51 (or its newer version, the HS52) would be the tyre of choice. Either way, both these tyres have proven to be reliable summer options with unique strengths.
