Here, we bring you a detailed comparison between two summer tyre models - the
Viking Protech NewGen and the
Kumho Ecsta PS71. Let's dive into the details and examine the strengths and weaknesses of each tyre based on numerous tests carried out by independent institutions.
Viking Protech NewGen by Viking
The Viking Protech NewGen gets an overall rating of 28% from our team, which does not place it among top-performing tyres. It is appreciated for its
fuel efficiency, a feature highly rated in the ADAC test. However, the tyre seems to struggle on both dry and wet surfaces. It also did not perform remarkably in mutual tests, finishing 37th out of 50 tyres in the Autobild test, and 16th out of 17 in the ADAC test. It seems that this tyre has no replacement model so far.
Kumho Ecsta PS71 by Kumho
On the other hand, the Kumho Ecsta PS71 stands out with a substantial overall rating of 76%. This tyre has shown a balanced high performance in various conditions. It has been praised for its capabilities in
comfort,
aquaplaning (both longitudinal and cross),
wet braking, and
wet handling. However, it has received slight criticism for its noise level. In mutual tests, this tyre advanced to the 12th position out of 50 in the Autobild test, and to a commendable 3rd place in the ADAC test. This tyre does not appear to have a successor yet.
Verdict
In comparing both models, the
Kumho Ecsta PS71 clearly outperforms the
Viking Protech NewGen, especially in areas like comfort, wet braking, handling, and aquaplaning. Despite the slightly higher noise level, its positives outweigh this minor issue. On the contrary, the Viking Protech NewGen has shown weak performances on dry and wet surfaces. Its only saving grace, fuel efficiency, may not suffice to compete against tyres with a more well-rounded performance, such as the Kumho Ecsta PS71.
