Uniroyal RainSport 5 and the Michelin Primacy 4+ are summer tyres developed by Uniroyal and Michelin, respectively. Both tyres have undergone numerous performance tests and received mixed reviews, with a particular emphasis on their aquaplaning capabilities and noise level.
The Uniroyal RainSport 5 has a 62% rating, and its best features according to Autobild tests were its cross aquaplaning capabilities. However, despite good performance on wet surfaces, it was criticised for its handling on dry terrain, described as 'schwammiges Fahrverhalten und eingeschränkte Seitenführung auf trockener Piste' or 'spongy handling and limited side guidance on dry surfaces'. This tyre has not been replaced by a newer model yet.
The Michelin Primacy 4+, which replaced the Primacy 4 and Primacy 3, has an overall rating of 76%. It performed particularly well in terms of exterior noise, according to the Autobild tests, and the autobild 2024 tests praised it for its balanced performance and economy, stating, 'Ausgewogen hohes Leistungspotenzial, gute Handlingqualitäten, kurze Trockenbremswege, vorbildliche Laufleistung und Wirtschaftlichkeit' or 'Balanced high performance potential, good handling qualities, short dry braking distances, exemplary service life and economy'. The Michelin Primacy 4+ has been replaced by the Michelin Primacy 5.
In the ADAC test, the Uniroyal RainSport 5 obtained the 31st position out of 50 tyres, while the Michelin Primacy 4+ was ranked 3rd. Autoklub ČR testing also positioned the Primacy 4+ higher (2nd place) than the RainSport 5 (5th place).
The Primacy 4+ showed a robust and balanced performance in both dry and wet conditions, with the autobklubcr 2023 test description pointing out high mileage and good environmental balance as notable strengths. The RainSport 5, on the other hand, received criticism for its sustainability and energy consumption, with definite weaknesses noted on dry roads.
In conclusion, Michelin Primacy 4+ has a clear advantage in different tests over the Uniroyal RainSport 5, excelling in performance, economy, and sustainability. Despite aquaplaning strengths, the RainSport 5 could improve upon its dry surface performance and energy efficiency.
