Comparison: Semperit Speed-Life 3 vs. Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 vs. Continental PremiumContact 7 vs. Pirelli Cinturato P7 C2

Here we have an interesting comparison between two summer tyres, the Semperit Speed-Life 3, which is a continuation of the Speed-Life model from Semperit, and the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, an UUHP tyre from Dunlop.

Starting with the Semperit Speed-Life 3, it received an overall rating of 47% in our tests. The tyre showed good handling on wet road conditions and outperformed in the category of projected tyre life, having low wear and good efficiency. However, it was noted to have weaker performance when it comes to drivability on dry roads.

Interestingly, in the ADAC test, the Semperit Speed-Life 3 ranked quite well. Out of 17 tyres, it secured the 10th position, with its wet braking ability and mileage earning special recognition. However, in the 'Autobild' test with 51 participants, the Speed-Life 3 did not fare as well, coming in at the 43rd position.

Switching gears to the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, our tests gave it a more favourable rating of 76%. Its strengths include excellent aquaplaning capabilities and significant safety reserves when wet conditions are on the scene. Furthermore, it provides comfortable ride and has a decent tyre longevity. However, its delayed steering response on dry roads was picked up as a minus point across various tests.

Subject to criticism, the SP Sport MAXX RT2 shone through in the 'Autobild' test, securing a high 7th spot out of 51 total tyres. The test commended the tyre specifically for its superior longitudinal and cross aquaplaning ability, in addition to comfort. Similarly, in the ADAC test, the Dunlop tyre was ranked 6th out of 17 tested tyres, again being praised for its impressive cross aquaplaning capabilities.

In conclusion, if you prioritize safety under wet conditions, good mileage and don't mind a slightly delayed steering response on dry road, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 could be the right tyre for you. Conversely, if you seek a tyre with good wet road handling, superior longevity and efficiency, the Semperit Speed-Life 3 might be your pick, though you might find its performance on dry roads a tad weaker in comparison to other models.

Please bear in mind that both tyres have their own strengths and weaknesses, and the choice should ultimately depend on your individual driving behaviour and conditions.
