Comparison: Nokian Powerproof vs. Nexen N fera Sport vs. Pirelli P ZERO PZ4

The Nokian Powerproof and Nexen N fera Sport are two summer tyres designed with industry-leading technology by Nokian and Nexen respectively. Both are recognized for their high performance on dry and wet surfaces, however, the test results differentiate certain strengths and weaknesses.

The Nokian Powerproof, made in Finland, was rated 51% by experts in various tests. The Nexen N fera Sport, manufactured in the Czech Republic, came with a higher rating of 59%. While both fared well, the Nexen N fera Sport replaced the BMW 2-series Active Tourer as the first equipment and performed better during comparative tests.

The Nokian Powerproof, which was replaced by the Nokian Powerproof 1 performed well in the Automotorsport 2022 test and delivered impeccable steering response on dry surfaces. However, deficiencies were noted in aquaplaning safety, and a faintly perceptible, singing rolling and slanting noise. In the Autobild test, the tyre impressed with excellent wet braking attributes.

Notably, the Nokian Powerproof positioned 2nd in the Autobild test among 50 total tyres, and 7th in the AutoMotorSport test with 11 total tyres. In contrast, the tyre did not fare as well in the ADAC test, where it came in 11th position.

On the other hand, the Nexen N Fera Sport excelled for its safe braking on wet roads and good planning provision, although it fell short in terms of side guiding properties on wet surfaces. The tyre also offered a remarkably quiet and comfortable ride. It was noted that the Nexen N fera Sport positioned 5th in the ADAC test and had a good performance in the AutoMotorSport and Autobild tests, where it achieved 9th among 11 tyres, and 7th among 50 tyres, respectively.

In conclusion, both tyres have their unique strengths and weaknesses. The Nokian Powerproof exhibits superior qualities in wet braking and dry steering response, but lags in aquatic safety. The Nexen N Fera Sport stands out for its impressive aquaplaning performance, comfort and lower noise level, but shows slightly lower sport-like aspiration. From diverse tests, the Nexen N fera Sport appears to edge out the Nokian Powerproof, but the latter's successor, the Nokian Powerproof 1, could be worth considering.
