Comparison: Michelin Primacy 4 vs. Maxxis Premitra HP5 vs. Michelin Primacy 4+ vs. Hankook ION Evo

The Michelin Primacy 4 and Maxxis Premitra HP5 are among the top choices when it comes to summer tires. However, they offer unique features and performance making each one favourable under specific circumstances.

The Michelin Primacy 4 boasts of an outstanding rating of 89%, surpassing its predecessor, the Primacy 3. It replaced by the Michelin Primacy 4+, but still remains a popular choice among customers owing to its superb features. In multiple tests it achieved top positions - such as 1st in the Promobil, and Firmenauto tests and 2nd in the Autozeitung test. Further, in Autobild's extensive tyre test featuring 53 tyres, the Primacy 4 secured a position among the top five. Its strengths lie particularly in dry handling, comfort, dry braking, gravel traction, and wet circle cornering. However, the high cost is identified as a potential drawback.

On the other hand, the Maxxis Premitra HP5 has an overall rating of 78%. Even though it corresponds to a lower position in mutual tests compared to the Michelin Primacy 4, its performance should not be underestimated. Especially notable is its performance in aquaplaning – cross and longitudal, where it outshines most of the competition. Furthermore, it provides superior safety reserves during aquaplaning, short wet braking distances, and low noise levels. The tyre also does well in dry handling, safety, dry steering response, exterior noise, and wet circle cornering. Nonetheless, its dry handling understeers and the lifetime is slightly limited.

Overall, the Michelin Primacy 4 is an excellent all-rounder with edge in dry conditions and comfort, although at a higher price point. The Maxxis Premitra HP5, on the other hand, offers outstanding aquaplaning safety and wet performance, underlined by a attractive price, although with a slightly shorter lifespan.
