Comparison: Michelin Primacy 4+ vs. Kumho Ecsta HS52 vs. Hankook ION Evo vs. Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2

In the world of tyres, the Michelin Primacy 4+ and the Kumho Ecsta HS52 both hold their own, particularly within the touring, summer tyre category. However, upon examining test data thoroughly, some differences between these two models become readily evident.

The Michelin Primacy 4+ has lived up to the expectations set by its previous models, the Michelin Primacy 4 and Michelin Primacy 3, boasting a strong rating of 77%. The Primacy 4+ stands out for its impressive exterior noise control and admirable performance on dry surfaces. ADAC tests underline this tyre’s exceptional wet grip, high aquaplaning resistance, and low noise levels. There were, however, a few minor drawbacks noted such as slightly sluggish dry handling.

On the other hand, the Kumho Ecsta HS52, successor to the Kumho Ecsta HS51, slightly surpasses the Primacy 4+ in rating with a score of 78%. According to Autobild, its strong points include dry and wet braking and handling. Despite its excellent performance in the different testing conditions, it was reported to have a slightly less satisfying rolling comfort while bringing remarkable mileage and wet circle cornering capabilities to the table, as highlighted by ADAC.

All comparisons considered, both tyres have shown considerable strength in mutual tests. The Michelin Primacy 4+ landed at position 7 in Vibilagare's test, whereas the Kumho Ecsta HS52 reached position 3. Similarly, in Autobild's vast test involving 55 tyres, Kumho Ecsta HS52 outperformed the Michelin Primacy 4+ coming in 2nd compared to Michelin's 5th place.

In conclusion, while the Michelin Primacy 4+ is commended for its exemplary noise control and overall balanced performance, the Kumho Ecsta HS52 offers an appealing package with its excellent dry and wet handling, good mileage and its slightly higher rating. However, personal preference, driving conditions and usage may determine which of these two quality tyres is the better fit for individual motorists.
