Comparison: Michelin Pilot Sport 5 vs. Bridgestone Potenza Sport vs. Continental PremiumContact 6

The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and the Bridgestone Potenza Sport are two highly-rated Ultra-High-Performance (UUHP) summer tyres developed by Michelin and Bridgestone respectively.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 5, the successor to the popular Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and Michelin Pilot Sport 3, boasts an impressive rating of 97% in our review. According to the test results, its best features include its high mileage, wet braking and handling abilities. It performed particularly well in the AutoBild and Autobild 2023 tests, finishing 3rd in both. Despite its superior performance, the tyre exhibits slight weaknesses in aquaplaning behaviour. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 merges durability with performance, maintaining consistent ratings across varied conditions.

On the other hand, Bridgestone Potenza Sport, made in PL and HU, has secured a strong 89% rating in our review. Its best features include wet and dry braking, wet safety, and handling. It outperforms the Michelin Sport 5 in most tests, landing the 2nd position in Autobild, Autozeitung and Die Reifentester tests, and the 1st position in the ADAC test. Though it shows very good dry and wet handling, the tyre has been reported to have higher tyre weight and more fuel consumption.

Although both tyres exhibit top-class performance, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 seems to outdo the Bridgestone Potenza Sport in terms of eco impact, tread life, and cost-effectiveness. The Bridgestone tyre was found to struggle in the deeper water of the aquaplaning tests and showed signs of considerable wear after just a few laps on a demanding circuit, hinting at potential longevity issues. It was also noted to possess a high rolling resistance and was the worst-valued tyre in one test.

In conclusion, while the choice between Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and Bridgestone Potenza Sport ultimately lies in individual preferences and needs, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 seems to provide a more balanced performance with a focus on durability, eco-impact, and greater value for money. However, The Bridgestone Potenza Sport is a strong competitor, especially if you're looking for significant grip and a sporty feel.
