Both tyres are summer tyres, with the Maxxis Premitra HP5 being ranked at 85% on our rating scale and the Michelin Primacy 4 earning a slightly higher rating of 90%. Maxxis Premitra HP5
The Maxxis Premitra HP5 performs well in tests, with strengths in aquaplaning resistance (cross and longitudinal) and wet circle cornering. The tyre shows good handling capabilities on gravel and offers a comfortable ride. Its weaknesses include understeering in dry handling, limited tread life, and increased rolling resistance, which can negatively affect fuel efficiency.

In various tests (ADAC, Autozeitung, GTÜ, and Firmenauto), the Maxxis Premitra HP5 ranked 3rd or higher, with one test from Promobil placing it in 7th position out of 8 total tyres. It performed best in aquaplaning resistance and received a strong third-place finish in the ADAC test for dry braking and wet circle cornering.

Michelin Primacy 4
The Michelin Primacy 4 is a summer touring tyre with impressive performance across the board. Its strengths include excellent dry handling, good aquaplaning resistance, high mileage, and low rolling resistance. These traits lead to better fuel efficiency, reduced braking distances, and a longer-lasting tyre. On the downside, it comes at a higher price point compared to its competitors.

In the same tests as mentioned above, the Michelin Primacy 4 consistently ranked near the top, with first-place rankings in tests by Promobil, Firmenauto, and ADAC. The tyre performed well in dry braking, wet handling, and rolling resistance - factors that contribute to its overall high rating. The Autozeitung and GTÜ tests placed it in 2nd and 5th positions, respectively.

Verdict
In summary, both the Maxxis Premitra HP5 and Michelin Primacy 4 are solid summer tyre options that deliver reliable performance in various conditions. The Maxxis Premitra HP5 stands out with its aquaplaning resistance and comfortable ride, making it a good choice if safety and comfort are your priorities.

However, the Michelin Primacy 4 outperforms the Maxxis Premitra HP5 in most tests and offers a longer tread life and better fuel efficiency, despite its higher price point. If you prioritize performance and durability, the Michelin Primacy 4 (or its newer model, the Michelin Primacy 4+) would be the better choice for your vehicle.
