Comparison: Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 vs. Vredestein Quatrac vs. Falken e.Ziex

Today we are comparing two tyres for the all-round sector: the Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 and the Vredestein Quatrac.

The Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 tyre, produced by Maxxis and made in China, received our rating of 53%. In the Autobild test, it came in 13th place out of 32 tyres, with the best features being wet circle cornering and exterior noise. The strengths of this tyre according to other tests include great aquaplaning characteristics, dynamic handling and short braking distances on dry surfaces. However, it has been criticized for its delayed steering response, understeering in all weather conditions, and limited mileage and efficiency.

On the other hand, the Vredestein Quatrac tyre, manufactured by Vredestein in Hungary, performs significantly better, with our rating being at 88%. This tyre secured an impressive second place in the Autobild test, with its best features being wet circle cornering and wet handling. This all-round tyre also stood out with its balanced performance profile, short braking distances on both wet and dry surfaces, agile driving behaviour, direct steering, and low rolling resistance. The only downside noted was its average mileage.

In conclusion, while both tyres show strengths in wet handling, the Vredestein Quatrac overall outperforms the Maxxis Premitra AS AP3. The Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 struggles particularly with its steering response and understeering in any weather. Despite its average mileage, the Vredestein Quatrac showcases a balanced performance profile and exhibits great overall performance which makes it a more reliable choice for an all-round tyre. Nonetheless, this does not mean the Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 is not a solid choice for the budget-conscious buyer, especially given its significantly lower price point.
