Comparison: Kumho Ecsta HS51 vs. Continental PremiumContact 6 vs. Pirelli P ZERO PZ4

We take a closer look at two popular summertime tyre models here. The South Korean product Kumho Ecsta HS51, and the European gem Continental PremiumContact 6. Both models have subsequently been replaced by Kumho Ecsta HS52 and Continental PremiumContact 7 respectively, so it is worth considering these newer models for up-to-date technology and features.

Manufactured primarily in China, the Kumho Ecsta HS51 holds a decent rating of 78% on our scale. A total of 52 products were involved in the Autobild test, where this tyre finished 13th. Despite this lower ranking, the HS51 scored well in the Aquaplaning, both cross and longitudinal, price/value, wet handles, and wet side guide categories. The same strengths were mirrored in the ADAC and Autozeitung test. But the ADAC test pointed out the tyre's additional strengths in Fuel Efficiency, Exterior Noise, and Wet Circle Cornering, allowing it to attain a 5th position amongst 15 entries. The Tyre did however do less well in the Teknikens test, holding the 7th position.

On the other hand, the Continental PremiumContact 6, made in multiple European countries including Slovakia, Germany, and the Czech Republic, commanded the topmost position in all tests, earning an overall rating of 83% from us. It demonstrated outstanding performance in areas like wet braking, wet handling, dry braking, and dry handling. Comfort and safety were specially remarked upon in the Autozeitung test. Based on all the above, Continental PremiumContact 6 outperformed the Kumho Ecsta HS51 in most aspects.

In conclusion, if you prioritize safety, comfort, and wet handling, the Continental PremiumContact 6 would be your preferred choice. Nevertheless, Kumho Ecsta HS51 could be a good pick if you're seeking more affordable options and is especially effective under the risk of Aquaplaning.
