Comparison: Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 K127 vs. Kumho Ecsta PS71 vs. Hankook Ventus Evo vs. Pirelli Cinturato P7 C2

When it comes to choosing high-performance summer tyres, the Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 K127 and the Kumho Ecsta PS71 are often top contenders. Our test results and reviews aim to provide a comprehensive comparison between these two models, aiding you in selecting the right tyre for your vehicle.

The Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 K127 boasts an overall rating of 82%, cementing its strong position within the Ultra Ultra High Performance (UUHP) sector. Manufactured in Korea, this Hankook model has been chosen as a first equipment tyre for prestigious vehicles such as the Audi Q8 and the BMW X3, demonstrating the confidence these brands have in its performance. One of its key strengths, as highlighted in various tests including the ACE and Autobild, is its braking capabilities, especially on wet surfaces. In Autobild's test, the Ventus S1 evo3 K127 secured a commendable 3rd place out of 53 tyres tested. However, its performance in terms of mileage was found to be average.

On the other hand, the Kumho Ecsta PS71, with an overall rating of 77%, has demonstrated strength in aquaplaning performance, as recognised by both ACE and ADAC tests. According to Autobild, the Ecsta PS71 offered balanced high performance and good handling. Although it scored lower overall than the Hankook model, it surpassed the Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 K127 in the ADAC test, securing the 10th place, compared to Hankook's 14th. However, one noted drawback of the Kumho tyre was the increased driving noise.

At present, neither of these tyre models have been replaced by a newer version, making them current choices within the respective ranges of Hankook and Kumho tyres.

Verdict: Both tyres have their strengths and weaknesses. While the Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 K127 stands out for its excellent braking performance, especially on wet surfaces, its mileage still leaves room for improvement. Conversely, the Kumho Ecsta PS71 shines in terms of aquaplaning performance and balanced overall quality, but could be quieter during operation. Ultimately, the deciding factors will depend on your specific vehicle requirements and driving needs.
