Comparison: Hankook Ventus Prime 4 vs. Maxxis Premitra HP5 vs. Firestone Roadhawk 2 vs. Goodyear Efficientgrip 2 SUV

The Hankook Ventus Prime 4 tyre and the Maxxis Premitra HP5 tyre are both reliable summer tyres from renowned manufacturers Hankook and Maxxis. They offer high levels of performance in dry conditions, with both models highlighting their strengths in dry braking and handling in particular. However, according to our review ratings, they offer notably different levels of overall performance, with the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 scoring 77% and the Maxxis Premitra HP5 scoring 56%.

The replacement to the Hankook Ventus Prime3 K125, the Prime 4 tyre impresses with its performance in dry conditions. It ranked second in an AutoBild test with 51 total tested tyres, being praised for its dry braking, dry handling and wet braking. However, the Maxxis Premitra HP5 also managed to land in the top third of the same AutoBild test, securing the 16th place with its best features in aquaplaning - both cross and longitudinal.

According to AutoBild 2024's summary, the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 tyre has "dynamic handling on wet and dry roads, short dry braking distance and low rolling resistance". However, it falls back in terms of mileage, which is something the Maxxis Premitra HP5 handles better. It offers a good mileage and short dry braking distances, but it received criticism for its delayed steering response and mediocre grip levels on wet and dry roads.

AutoBild 2022 emphasises the excellent handling of the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 on both wet and dry roads, its short braking distances and good mileage. On the other hand, the comfort level provided by this tyre is only average. For the Maxxis Premitra HP5, the high safety reserves during aquaplaning and its short wet braking distance got special mention, but its dry handling, overall mileage and high rolling resistance were rated lower.

In conclusion, if you're looking for dynamic handling and exceptional dry performance, Hankook Ventus Prime 4 could be the right choice for you. If your focus is more on safe handling during aquaplaning and good overall mileage, you might want to consider the Maxxis Premitra HP5 tyre. However, bear in mind that both tyres come with their unique strengths and weaknesses, and choosing the right one will ultimately depend on your personal preferences and driving needs.
