Hankook Ventus Prime 4 and Continental PremiumContact 7 are two mainstream summer touring tyres often compared in independent tests. On our scale the Ventus Prime 4 scores 71%, while the PremiumContact 7 is rated significantly higher at 98%. You can read the full tyre pages here: Hankook Ventus Prime 4 and Continental PremiumContact 7. Manufacturer pages: Hankook and Continental. Neither model has been replaced by a newer generation at the time of these tests.

Across multiple major test outlets (ADAC, AutoBild, Aftonbladet, Vibilagare, Autoklub ČR and Tyre Reviews), the Continental PremiumContact 7 consistently finishes at or near the top. It is the test winner in ADAC and several other test programs, praised for industry-leading wet and dry performance, shortest braking distances, and strong reserves at the limits. Test summaries call out “best properties on dry and wet roads,” “shortest wet and dry braking,” and “very good predicted wear and low fuel consumption.”

The Hankook Ventus Prime 4 produces a more mixed picture. In comparative tests it typically places mid-field to upper mid-field (positions range from 4th to 9th across different test programs). Test highlights for the Ventus Prime 4 include good dry handling and short dry braking, dynamic behaviour and low rolling resistance in some reports, and acceptable wet braking in certain tests. But several testers note weaker wet performance compared with class leaders, lower aquaplaning resistance, higher external noise and only moderate mileage.

  • Wet performance: Continental clearly leads — top marks for wet braking and wet handling in ADAC, Autobild and TyreReviews. Hankook shows acceptable short wet braking in some tests but overall has a weaker wet performance and lower aquaplaning resistance.

  • Dry performance: Both tyres offer strong dry handling, but Continental’s dry braking and handling are repeatedly rated better, making it safer and more confidence-inspiring at the limit.

  • Comfort and noise: Continental scores highly for comfort; Hankook is noted for some exterior noise issues in a few tests.

  • Rolling resistance and wear: Continental is praised for low fuel consumption and very good projected mileage. Hankook shows low rolling resistance in some reports but generally has moderate expected wear.

Summary verdict: the Continental PremiumContact 7 is the superior tyre in nearly every direct comparison — it is the safer, more balanced choice with top wet and dry stopping performance, strong handling, good comfort and class-leading longevity. The Hankook Ventus Prime 4 is a competent, value-oriented alternative if you prioritise good dry grip and lower rolling resistance, but it is outperformed by Continental in wet grip, aquaplaning resistance, noise and predicted wear.

Recommendation: if you want the best all-round summer touring tyre and top test results, choose the Continental (PremiumContact 7) and consider the manufacturer page for detailed specs (Continental). If budget and dry performance are your main priorities, the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 offers good dry braking and handling at a lower price point; see the Hankook brand page for more information (Hankook).
