Comparison: Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 vs. Pirelli P ZERO PZ4 vs. Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2 vs. Michelin Primacy 5

Today, we’re comparing two popular summer tyres: the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 and the Pirelli P ZERO PZ4. When it comes to performance, these tyres deliver. However, they both have their unique strengths and weaknesses.

Starting with the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, it received a rating of 72% on our site. This tyre, made by Dunlop, is a solid choice for summer driving. It excelled in several categories, most notably in wet surfaces, including aquaplaning and wet braking. The tyre also consistently displayed short dry braking distances. However, one area of improvement should be noted: the tyre has a slight delay in response on dry surfaces.

On the other side, the Pirelli P ZERO PZ4, delivered a higher overall rating of 85% according to our test results. Pirelli, a reputable tyre manufacturer, created a summer tyre to impress. This tyre stands out for its excellent dynamic driving qualities. Dry handling, wet braking, and wet circle cornering were among the numerous strengths. The tyre also offered exceptional wet handling performance. There were some drawbacks, though. The P ZERO PZ4 had a more limited lifespan and was a bit pricey compared to its competitors.

When both tyres were tested head-to-head by Autobild, the Pirelli P ZERO PZ4 came 3rd out of 50 tyres while the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 ranked 13th. In Gute-Fahrt’s test, Pirelli maintained its strong performance, coming in 2nd while Dunlop placed at a respectable 5th out of 7. Finally, Autozeitung ranked Dunlop 8th out of 10 while Pirelli came in 3rd. EVO’s test placed Pirelli 2nd and Dunlop 5th out of 9 tyres.

In conclusion, the Pirelli P ZERO PZ4 excels in performance, dominating in almost all categories especially in wet conditions. However, for those mindful of cost and longevity, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 would be a more suitable choice as it provides reliable performance at a more reasonable price. Ensure you consider your specific requirements and driving conditions when choosing your next UUHP summer tyre.
