In the realm of summer tyres, two models stand out for their performance and reliability: the BFGoodrich Advantage and the Continental PremiumContact 6. Both tyres, manufactured by BFGoodrich and Continental respectively, offer impressive features albeit with certain advantages and weak points.
Starting with the BFGoodrich Advantage, our overall rating for this particular model rests at 68%. Despite its subpar performance in comparative tests, ranking 9th among 15 tyres in the ADAC test and 8th in a line-up of 9 tyres by GTÜ, the Advantage does exhibit noteworthy strengths especially in terms of fuel efficiency which was a highlight in the ADAC test. Its merits in Dry handling were also emphasised in the Autobild test where it placed 18th out of 53 tyres.
On the other hand, the Continental PremiumContact 6 garners a considerably higher rating of 83%. As a touring summer tyre produced in SK, DE, and CZ, this model has made quite an impression in extensive testing. Outperforming its competitor in mutual tests, the PremiumContact 6 grabbed the top position in the ADAC test, outranking 14 other tyre models with its impressive Wet braking and Wet handling features. The tyre also fared well in the GTÜ test, clinching the 6th position with strengths boosting dry and wet braking, dry handling, as well as wet circle cornering. Moreover, the PremiumContact 6 garnered 4th place out of 53 tyres in the Autobild test, once again excelling in Wet Braking.
Bearing these strengths, the Continental PremiumContact 6 isn’t devoid of weakness as per Autobild 2020's report which points out a weakness in energy efficiency. And while BFGoodrich Advantage may fall behind in overall testing, its strengths in Fuel efficiency and Dry handling cannot be overlooked.
In conclusion, while both tyres serve their purpose, the Continental PremiumContact 6 outperforms the BFGoodrich Advantage in general tests and is subjected to a higher rating. However, the focus of your choice should depend on your particular driving conditions and requirements. Do keep in mind that the PremiumContact 6 has been replaced by the Continental PremiumContact 7.
