Comparison: Barum Bravuris 5 HM vs. Continental PremiumContact 6

The following comparison presents a detailed analysis of two prominent tyre models: the Continental PremiumContact 6. Both models are summer tyres, manufactured by Barum and Continental respectively.

Let’s begin with the Barum Bravuris 5 HM. This model doesn’t come with any prior versions and hasn't been replaced by a newer model yet. It scored a 39% rating on our site, suggesting a modest performance. Sadly, its performance in ADAC and Autobild tyre tests didn't impress either. Out of 17 tyres in the ADAC test, Barum Bravuris 5 HM ranked 15th, trailing behind most of the competition. Similarly, in a set of 50 tyres tested by Autobild, it ranked far down at 42nd position.

Moving on to the Continental PremiumContact 6, we find a more impressive track record. Having replaced the Continental ContiPremiumContact 5, it has now been itself superseded by Continental PremiumContact 7. Our site rated it at a strong 83%, indicating a highly satisfactory performance. It fared exceptionally well in the same tyre tests, too. The ADAC test saw this model ranking 2nd out of 17, and it secured the 4th place in the 50-tyre Autobild test. In both tests, it was particularly praised for its wet circle cornering and wet handling, wet braking, dry handling, mileage, and price/value ratio.

Further, the Continental PremiumContact 6 also collected accolades in the sportauto 2023 test, noted for its excellent balance, high safety rating, performance on both dry and wet surfaces and high mileage. However, the tyre's efficiency proved to be its only disadvantage in these tests. On the plus side, the 2021 ADAC test highlighted the tyre's low fuel consumption and commended its exceptional performance on wet roads and good handling on dry surfaces. No particular weaknesses were noted for this model in the test.

Verdict: Our comparisons clearly point towards the Continental PremiumContact 6 as the superior performer in multiple respects. However, the Barum Bravuris 5 HM may still hold appeal for consumers looking for a viable budget option. Its performance, though modest, is acceptable for the price range it belongs to.
