Maxxis offroad/allterrain (A/T) summer tyres - market overview, tests, reviews

Origin: Taiwan
7 models Avg. rating: 6.4 #1 Maxxis Victra Sport 5

Maxxis has built a broad and increasingly competitive summer tyre lineup, spanning everyday touring sizes to sportier UHP fitments for performance and SUV vehicles. Rather than cover every size and variant Maxxis produces, we've chosen just a few of the tyres available based on the most recent independent tests, focusing on models that have appeared repeatedly in 2025 and 2026 test rounds and therefore offer the clearest picture of how the brand performs today.

The Maxxis Premitra HP6 is the newest entry in Maxxis's mainstream touring segment, replacing the older Premitra HP5. Across five tests in 2026 (Autoexpress, AvD, TYRE REVIEWS, ADAC, and Netzwelt), it earned an overall rating of 64%, with results ranging from "recommended" to "satisfactory." Its consistent strength is efficiency and value: it posted the best rolling resistance in the Netzwelt test, near-best rolling resistance at Autoexpress, and was named the price-performance winner at AvD as the cheapest recommended tyre in that comparison. It also delivered the fastest dry handling time in the TYRE REVIEWS test. The recurring weakness across these tests is aquaplaning resistance, where it finished near the back of the field in several comparisons, along with middling wet handling and below-average dry braking in some tests.

In the sportier segment, the Maxxis Victra Sport 6 has now replaced the long-running Victra Sport 5, positioning itself as Maxxis's flagship UHP summer tyre. So far it has only appeared in Autobild's 2026 test, where it placed 18th (and 15th in a related braking-distance comparison) out of the field, earning a "satisfactory" rating with an overall score of 67%. Reviewers praised its dry cornering ability and short braking distances on dry roads, along with an attractive purchase price, but flagged noticeably spongy wet-weather handling and higher-than-average wear.

The outgoing Victra Sport 5 remains relevant for buyers cross-shopping older stock, having accumulated a much stronger test history: five appearances between 2024 and 2025 across Autobild, Die Reifentester, ACE, and Sportauto, resulting in an overall rating of 81%. It was consistently praised for safe, well-balanced handling with short braking distances in both wet and dry conditions and low road noise, though several testers noted delayed steering response on turn-in and comparatively limited tread life. A related variant, the Victra Sport 5 VS5 SUV, targets SUV and crossover fitments and scored 73% across four tests from 2020 to 2024, with testers highlighting secure wet-weather traction and aquaplaning behavior alongside a competitive price, offset by longer braking distances and elevated rolling resistance in some comparisons.

Taken together, these results paint Maxxis as a brand that competes strongly on value and efficiency, particularly with the Premitra HP6 in the touring class, while its UHP line is in transition: the well-regarded Victra Sport 5 is being phased out in favor of the newer Victra Sport 6, which has only limited test data so far and has not yet matched its predecessor's strong reputation. Buyers prioritizing outright performance may want to wait for further test coverage of the Victra Sport 6 before drawing firm conclusions, while the Premitra HP6 already stands out as a solid, budget-conscious touring option.
