How can I read a tyre’s manufacture date without treating its age as proof of its condition?

Hello, for non-retreaded tyres manufactured from 2000 onwards, look for the four-digit date code on the sidewall, usually at the end of the DOT marking: the first two digits give the production week and the last two the year. For example, 1024 means week 10 of 2024. The date may appear on only one sidewall, so check the other side if necessary. A three-digit week-and-year code indicates manufacture before 2000; Bridgestone recommends replacing such tyres due to age. Use the date as an age check, not a condition certificate: service life also depends on use, inflation, damage and storage. Even unused tyres can deteriorate with age. A reassuring appearance alone cannot establish their condition. Check tread wear, visible damage and sidewall cracks, and have a tyre professional assess any doubts about age or condition. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s replacement guidance; a recommended replacement age does not guarantee that a tyre will remain usable until then.
